    What is Partial Hospitalization?

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is an intensive psychotherapy program that treats people who are experiencing acute psychological distress. Our clients may have symptoms of Major Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Bipolar Disorder, Schizoaffective disorder, or Schizophrenia. The program focuses on reducing
symptoms, increasing coping skills, improving functioning, and preventing relapse. Clients attend four psychotherapy groups each day and work with an individual therapist for treatment planning.

    When is PHP appropriate?
PHP aims to help clients avoid an inpatient psychiatric hospital stay and remain in their own home or supportive setting. A person may be referred by their doctor, therapist or be self referred when their mental
health symptoms are acute and interfering with their daily functioning. PHP can also be used as a "step-down" treatment to ease a client's transition from an inpatient hospital to community-based services. Clients are expected to maintain safety for themselves and others in order to be appropriate for this level of
    care.

How often does the program meet?
PHP meets Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Clients attend 5 days a week for the first few weeks. As symptoms begin to stabilize, the number of days are decreased as clients transition toward discharge. Most clients stay in the program approximately 2-8 weeks, depending on their individual needs.

    Who are the staff?
Our program is staffed by an interdisciplinary team of licensed psychotherapists, a psychiatric registered
nurse, and a psychiatrist. Each client works with a therapist on a one to one basis for collaborative treatment and discharge planning. Medications may be managed by the psychiatrist on-site or by an individual's own psychiatrist. Staff work closely with each other as a team to provide the most comprehensive treatment for each client.

    Who pays for the program?
Seton Medical Center accepts most major insurance plans including Medicare. Before beginning the program, our staff will verify insurance benefits and clients will be informed of any deductible or co-payment responsibilities.

How does a person start the PHP?
Before beginning PHP, an initial appointment is set up for an intake assessment. Appointments are scheduled Monday - Friday at 10:30 AM. Prospective clients meet individually with a staff psychotherapist to evaluate their current symptoms. If needed, the person may also meet with the staff psychiatrist. A determination will be made with the client whether PHP is the right level of care. If so, a person may begin PHP the next day or soon thereafter. If PHP does not seem like the best level of treatment for a client,
then he/she will be given referrals for other appropriate options.
